Tayeng and Borang resolve to shed political differences

PASIGHAT, Oct 20: The joining of NCP MLA of 39th Mebo Assembly Constituency Ralom Borang in INC has brought both Borang and his powerful political opponent  and former Minister Lombo Tayeng  nearer as  they resolved to shed political differences and work together for area development in a historic “welcome ceremony” held at Kiyit village, Mebo circle East Siang District yesterday.

The programme was hosted by 39th Mebo Assembly Constituency INC candidate of last assembly election Lombo Tayeng to welcome Borang in INC Party. Congress leaders and workers from East Siang District Mahila Congress Committee, District Congress Committee, Mebo block INC  took part in the programme. However, the NCP members of the constituency could not attend the programme as they did not sign the INC membership form till date.

Addressing the gathering, Tayeng, who is also Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President said the joining of NCP MLAs in INC is a great achievement for the Congress in the state as well as in the Centre.

Tayeng being a senior party member advised Ralom Borang to work for allround development of Mebo area and assured to extend all possible support and cooperation for area development and for strengthening of INC party in the constituency. Responding to a public query on possible party faction in the forthcoming assembly election, Tayeng said “it is not a big issue; our major issue is area development. We should think and work for the all round development of Mebo area. Being members of INC party we should follow the party ideology and abide by the decision of party high command”, he added.  Further, expressing his concern over recent flood, he said “flood has extensively ravaged public and private properties in Mebo area; it is time for us to work in unison so that all the damaged properties are restored as early as possible. He also said “we should not discriminate anyone within our constituency on political ground, whatever development package we receive from concerned authority, we should utilize it properly and distribute any scheme equally among every segment of the constituency.

MLA Ralom Borang while briefing about his motives for joining in INC Party said “I joined the INC party for area development as our area needs special attention from state government which I can’t do it from NCP.”

He further said “Congress is Congress, there is no old and new Congress, being a Congress leader it is my duty to serve the entire party members and as MLA of Mebo constituency. My duty is to serve and work for the people of Mebo constituency without any political differences.”

The MLA sought cooperation from all segments of his constituency for development of the area and informed that area coordination meeting would be held soon in this regard.

Earlier, Mebo Block, NCP President Todol Pertin who along with five other NCP block executive members accompanied Borang on the occasion said “joining of MLA Ralom Borang in INC party is a good sign for the people of Mebo area particularly for area development.

He expressed hope that Borang would bring developmental schemes in the flood ravaged Mebo area.

Regarding non-participation of NCP members in the welcome ceremony, he said formality for joining of NCP members in INC party could not be materialize due to time factor. He expressed hope that all the NCP members of Mebo area would soon fill up the INC membership form and strengthen the INC Party.

East Sing District DCC (I) Vice Chairman Nakmin Perme also welcoming Borang in the INC party said joining of Borang in INC party has strengthened the INC in the district.

He urged both Tayeng and Borang to shed off their political differences and jointly work together for the all round development of Mebo area.

Mebo-I BCC Vice Chairman Bani Appum appealed to the people of the Mebo constituency to stand united and discourage any form of political discrimination within the constituency.

He also urged the party members to discourage formation of any faction within the same party.

Monggu Banggo Anchal Bock, ZPM Tokram Yirang said that with the joining the Borang in INC party, all the NCP party workers of Mebo area would also fill up their names in INC members list.

Public leader Getom Borang highlighting about the damaged caused to Mebo area in the recent flood advised all to extend their support and cooperation to flood victims in time of need.

He appealed to Tayeng and Borang to approach state government for necessary payment of compensation and early restoration of surface communion within Mebo area.

East Siang District Mahila Congress Committee President Oter Tayeng also expressed her happiness on joining of Borang in INC party.

Meanwhile appreciating Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for his support and cooperation to MCC, She urged Borang to do extend support and cooperation to DMCC.

 

 

8 die as van falls into khud in W/Kameng

Itanagar, Oct 20: Eight people died on the spot and as many had a miraculous escape when the Mahindra pick up van carrying them skidded off the Bhalukpong-Tawang road in West Kameng district and fell into 700 to 800 feet khud  early morning today.

While two local hunters were the first to spot them after hearing the frantic call of the wounded driver and managed to bring him up at a point about one km ahead of Sattle or 5 km ahead of 'Zero point'. According to agency report, West Kameng SP T T Lama while returning from Itanagar spotted the driver about 11.30 am and learnt about incident before seeking the help of passers by and alerting the Army, Bhalukpong, Rupa and Bomdila police stations. The driver attributed sleepy condition to the accident which had occurred at a critical turning point.

SP's PSO naik Passang Dorjee along with drivers of two private vehicles dared to go down and located the eight surviving passengers of the total 16 traveling in the van. An Army medical team with medicines and a nursing assistant on arrival immediately reached the rocky spot and gave first aid that facilitated carrying the survivors till the road point with the help of the passengers traveling on the road, the SP informed a news agency. The van owned by Tawang-based trader Mukesh Saha had started with two passengers from Tawang and the others, mostly working as porters with the Army from Thellamara and Misamari areas of Assam were returning either after completing their tenure or for Durga Puja. Despite frantic efforts of the SP to speed up the rescue operation, the rocky spot posed the greatest hurdle and all could be brought up by about 4 pm before sending them to Bhalukpong.

'All of them are grievously injured but the chance of their survival is bright because of the rescue or else no body could have heard them as the spot where the van fell was far away from the road and their voice was not audible to the passengers of any passing vehicle', the SP added. It is reported that the injured have been admitted to Bhalukpong PHC while the bodies of the deceased would be extricated under the supervision of the SP tomorrow.

 

 

Arunachal pays tributes to martyrs of Indo-China war

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: The people of Arunachal Pradesh today joined the nation in paying homage to the martyrs of 1962 Indo-China war.

Along with the rest of the  Nation, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the India-China war of 1962 commemorating 50 years of one of the most disastrous wars in the history of the country.

Nearly 4000 soldiers and officers lost their lives in the month-long war with China, which began on October 20, 1962. The Indian Army was forced to retreat from Arunachal Pradesh despite its soldiers putting up a valiant fight.

“The 1962 war reminds us of exemplary bravery of the Indian Army and the ultimate sacrifice of the heroic combatants, who inspite of facing heavy odds, fought to the last bullet and the last man. This speaks volumes of the gallantry displayed by every officer and man of our armed forces and also reminds us of the exceptional patriotism of the civil administration and people of Arunachal Pradesh, who provided able support at each step, Singh said in a message.

“The sacrifices of men in the call of duty have never gone in vain. The 1962 war has been a lesson in strengthening our capabilities and modernizing our armed forces. It has helped in formulating appropriate responses to our nation’s foreign and security related challenges and in a concrete increase in our collective national strength. The sweat and blood of our men in uniform have ensured our territorial integrity, our freedom and our national pride and their sacrifices will remain a source of inspiration for our citizens and armed forces for all times to come,” the message read.

“Fifty years ago, on October 20, 1962, China attacked India through Arunachal Pradesh. The war was brief but took away lives of hundreds of our brave soldiers. We as Indians and proud Arunachalees let us remember and pay our tributes to the martyrs as for their supreme sacrifice we are what we are and where we are today,” Tuki said in a statement here this morning.

The Sino-Indian War is notable for the harsh conditions under which much of the fighting took place, entailing large-scale combat at altitudes of over 4,250 metres (14,000 feet). Despite being pushed back Indian soldiers fought bravely and laid down hundreds of lives to protect their motherland from foreign invasion.

Saluting the martyrs on this particular day, the Chief Minister, meanwhile, reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and that its citizens are very proud Indians.

 

 

Chakmas violate court order, refuse to vacate encroached land: SYO

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: Singpho Youth Organization has expressed concern over failure of administration to clear  the  Arunachalee tribal land  encroached by Chakma refugees at M-Pen, near Miao. The encroached land belongs to one Thuing Singpho and major clash had broken between locals and Chakma refugees over the said plot of land 2 years ago.

The organization claims that ADC cum Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Miao vide Case No. Crl. Revn (P) No. 08(A.P) 2009 on 31/03/2010 had issued an order directing the illegal encroachers to vacate the land within 4 days from the date of pronouncement of his order failing which, the Officer In charge, Miao Police Station along with the Deptt. of Land Management, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh will pursue eviction of the land at M’pen and hand it over to it’s legal owner Thuing Singpho immediately and maintain law and order on the disputed land.

In response to the above judicial order, 131 Chakma refugees, headed by one Samaran Chakma filed a Criminal Revision Petition at Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench vide Order Dated.07/07/2011, against the ADC cum Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Miao, the Circle Officer, Miao Revenue Circle, Deptt. of Land Management, Miao, the Officer In-charge, Miao Police Station, Miao and Thuing Singpho, W/o Lt. P. J. Singpho stating that the land at M’pen belongs to them. The High Court in its judgment rejected the appeal and advised both the parties to move the Competent Civil Court, to decide their right and title under Civil law.

Further the Gauhati High Court Permanent Bench, Itanagar passed a judgment dated 15th February 2010, directing both the above parties to maintain Status-quo as on 10/09/2008 (as passed in Crl. Revn. No. 285/ 2008) in respect of the disputed land at M’pen Village. Thereafter, the Chakma refugees of M’pen Village filed a case COP( c ) No. 01/2009 violating the order of the status-quo.

The organization further claimed that the Singpho community during last September decided to move to M’pen village for taking possession of the said land, but surprisingly the police prohibited them stating that it will be a violation of the status-quo and immediately imposed Sec.144 CrPC at Miao township. This decision offered a golden opportunity for the Chakma refugees as they started constructing dwelling houses and cultivates vegetation free from any obstruction, even from the administration and police, which is a biased move from the government’s side, the Singpho Youth Organization rued.

On 22nd September this year, police authorities of Miao Sub Division went to M’pen Village for eviction of the encroached land, but they returned back empty handed stating that they didn’t have enough lady constables, which again proves the failure of administration and police and the very concept of justice delivery system culminates to nowhere.  After the above failure, the Deputy Commissioner, Changlang, met with the Singpho leaders and Youths at Miao on 27th September and assured them of delivering immediate justice. But, even after 23 days, nothing positive on the above case is witnessed.

Though the administration has pronounced judgments in favour of the Singpho community who are original land owners of M’pen Singpho village, it has much more mechanisms to materialize, since the illegal Chakma refugees still are in possession of the Singpho land in question. “Therefore it is our fervent appeal to all the government departments concerned and the political leaders to help us resolve the case as soon as possible, before those illegal migrants intrude inside our own doors,” stated Singpho Youth Organization.

 

 

Shaheed Shraddhanjali Yatra enters Arunachal

Itanagar, Oct 20: The Shaheed Shraddhanjali Yatra consists of about 50 vehicles  which was flagged off by the BJP President Nitin Gadkari at Guwahati  on October 18 arrived at Bhalukpong (Arunachal) on the same day amid rousing   welcome by womenfolk.

Later a public Shraddhanjali sabha was organized at Bhalukpong Market area. The programme is being organized to mark the 50th year of  Chinese aggression in 1962.

Before their entry into Arunachal Pradesh the Yatra had brief Shraddhanjali Sabha at Nagaon followed by a massive public Shraddhanjali Sabha at Tezpur where the Chinese had landed during 1962.  At Tezpur, hundreds of Yatra members paid floral tributes to war Memorial.

At Bhalukpong, BJP National General Secretary, Tapir Gao (former MP), leader, BJP Legislature Party, Tamiyo Taga (MLA), BJYM National General Secretary, Nitin Nabin (MLA) and State General Secretary In-Charge, Organization, Tai Tagak addressed the Shaheed Shraddhanjali Sabha amidst huge gathering. Hundreds of people from 20 states of the country participated in the yatra. State BJYM President, Doni Nich welcomed the Shaheed Shraddhanjali Yatra participants and publics of Bhalukpong. From public, noted young social worker, Gandhi Sakrinsow of Bhalukpong extended welcome address on behalf of the people of Bhalukpong and expressed gratitude of the BJYM Yatra programme.

Other speakers also  expressed their concern over the Centre’s step motherly treatment on the core issues of NE States especially of the strategically located state of Arunachal Pradesh even after 50 years  of Chinese aggression.

Wars are fought for political objectives and foreign policies and calculations of national interest play a major role in decision making. No war history can be complete without assessment of these aspects.

There is no changes in ground level in the border districts in Arunachal Pradesh in term of infrastructure even after 50 years of 1962 war,  the party said.

The Yatra left Bhalukpong for Bomdila October 19, 2012 morning and paid Shraddhanjali to the war heroes at Tenga war memorial and held public Shraddhanjali Sabha at Bomdila market and later in the evening reached at Dirang and offered shraddhanjali at war Memorial Dirang.

At Bomdila, BJP National general Secretary, Tapir Gao, former MP Kiren Rijiju, BJYM National Vice Presidents, Kamlesh Paswan (MP) and Raghav Pal Singh (MP) addressed the Shraddhanjali Sabha.

 

 

 

Pema honors the unsung heroes of ’62 War

TAWANG, Oct 20:  To commemorate the 50th year of supreme sacrifice made by the Indian soldiers in the inhospitable terrain and unforgiving heights of the Kameng sector in 1962 Chinese aggression, Minister RWD & Tourism Pema Khandu, today, paid rich tribute to the unsung heroes of 1962 War at Tawang War Memorial.

The gloom of the “last post” by the Army buglers filled the air when the young minister, on behalf of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and people of the State saluted the martyrs and laid flower wreath to relive the valor of the forgotten valiants of 1962 war.

It was on this day, exactly 50 years ago that the silence of the hills of Thagla ridge in the Zemithang Circle of Tawang district was stirred by deafening gunshots and shell blasts, when the red Chinese villainously attacked India. The bloody conflict of 1962 Sino –India started. Tawang fell to Chinese on 25th October and subsequently Nuranang, Sela, Bomdila, Chaku too fell. Our sentinels - The brave soldiers of Indian Army fought to their last blood to defend the nation from the Chinese aggression and gallantly laid their life for the sake of the motherland. The War Memorial erected at Tawang in the form of Chorten has the names of all those valiant soldiers inscribed on granite slabs with their unit flags flying high around the memorial in a semi circle.

Brig. Rajpurohit was expressively elated to receive Pema Khandu at the War Memorial for honoring the fallen soldiers of 1962 war.

SP Tawang SN Musobi, Major Chettri and President YUVA Tsetan Chombey also accompanied the Minister during the wreath laying.

Later the Brigadier and Minister had a fruitful discussion over Civil-Army relation and the development activities to be taken up jointly in the border villages and welfare of yak rearers, who normally herd their livestock near the international border in the vicinity of army camps.  

Selection of a suitable site for MI172 helipad at Luguthang was also discussed.

On the previous day, Pema took a review meeting with the Tawang festival celebration committee at DC’s conference hall. The various sub-committees apprised the Minister of the progress made so far in successful celebration of the festival. The 5-day mega tourism event – The Tawang festival is being organized from 26th to 30th October in which cultural troupes from various parts of the State and North Eastern States are participating. Celebrity artiste from Bollywood and North Eastern States are also performing in the festival. Apart from HODs and Public Leaders of Tawang, the meeting was also attended by Tsewang Dhondup, Parliamentary Secretary (Cultural Affairs), Secretary Tourism Sonam Chombay, Deputy Commissioner Tawang Kemo Lollen and Festival Director Tsetan Chombey.

 

 

DC cautions non-performing BDOs

AALO, Oct 20: The block development officers (BDOs), who are taking up the mantle of the centrally sponsored poverty elevation programmes are bound to work with a great sense of commitment to meet the twin objectives of completing all schemes on time and ameliorate rural woes. Lack of responsibility on the part of the BDOs will not be tolerated, said West Siang Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman DRDA, Marnya Ete while chairing the coordination meet of BDOs at his conference hall here yesterday.

Expressing his anguish over skipping of meeting called by the Chairman and sending representatives without any intimation, he said that such casual approach not only gives bad reputation to the district but halt development process. He asked all BDOs to submit Social Audit Report, Utilization Certificates, open bank accounts and insisted on filing success stories by each block on schemes undertaken by them.

“No doubt the BDOs are facing some genuine problems. But they are bound to overcome such hurdles and keep in touch with the Project Director and Chairman in settling the key issues that confronts them,” he opined.

Patiently hearing the physical and financial progress Block wise, the DC set a deadline for all BDOs to complete the schemes on a stipulated time and informed that all works in each block will be reviewed again. He also assured to look into the problems with the banks and asked BDOs to utilize the services of all officers and officials of the blocks as a team to discharge works effectively.

Project Director DRDA, Dege Ete said that timely completion of works and submission of Utilization Certificates is quite essential for further flow of budgetary support from the Govt. of India.

In the interacting session, the BDOs also pointed out their problems like non-availability of CIC in some blocks, delay in releasing loan amount by the banks, public tussle on schemes, opening of bank account in Gram Panchayat, improper functioning of net etc. DIPRO

 

 

Rallo Rine murder case

Orgs stage dharna, demands arrest of main accused

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: All Yachuli Students’ Union (AYSU) took out a ‘Justice Rally’ from Yazali to Ziro yesterday and staged dharna before the Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner’s Office demanding immediate arrest of the main accused in Rallo Rine murder case.

Representatives of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union, All Nyishi Students’ Union and Yazali branch of Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society also joined the rally, according an AYSU release.

Later, a memorandum was submitted to the deputy commissioner (DC) by AYSU demanding immediate arrest of the main accused in the murder case.

“Rallo Rine, a class XII student of Govt Hr. Sec. School, was murdered by some miscreants on August 12, 2012. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged in this regard at Yazali Police station next day. Sixty days have passed since the brutal murder of the girl. But the main culprit involved in the case is still at large,” the memorandum submitted to the DC said.

The Union demanded the district administration to arrest the culprit on or before November 14 next failing which the union threatened to launch vigorous democratic movement.

Meanwhile, AYSU president Toko Nega informed that the district authority had assured to fulfill its demand by arresting the main accused as demanded by the union.

 

 

2 days AIR Zonal Coordination Committee meeting held

PASIGHAT, Oct 20: A two days Zonal Programme Coordination Committee meeting of the All India Radio Stations located in and across the North East including Sikkim was held in the Siang Guest House on Oct 18-19 under the chairmanship of C. Lalrosanga, Addl. Director General (P) North Eastern Region.

It was also attended by Dinesh Ch Das DDG of AIR Guwahati, N. Sadap DDG NES Shillong and MK Deb-Burman AOP NER and station heads and program officers of AIR North East Region except Silchar and Ziro.

During the meeting, future plans and strategies were also chalked out so as to attract more listeners.

Speaking on the occasion, Lalrosanga emphasized on the need for the improvement of programmes aired by the AIR Stations and advised the officers to be more dedicated, sincere and transparent in duties. ITANAGAR, Oct 20: Neelam Welfare Society (NWS), Neelam Area Intellectuals Forum (NAIF) and Neelam Youth Club (NYC) paid rich tributes to the martyr Tabe Neelam (Dafla)  who laid down his life at the altar of duty during India-China war of 1962. Lt. Tabe Neelam, son of late Neelam Tath, of Deed Village, Lower Subansiri District joined 5th Assam Rifles to protect the motherland and fought for the Nation on this day in 1962  at Zemithang, Jhang in Tawang district. The organization also remembered the day as Supreme Sacrifice Day and prayed for peace and prosperity of Nyishi  community in particular and Arunachal as a whole.  Tabe Neelam was only Arunachalee  who joined Assam Rifles and fought for motherland, but neither state Govt nor  Central Govt do recognize his supreme sacrifice  even after 50 years of Chinese aggression, the organizations rued.

“You fought with the enemies as a fighter and subsequently sacrificed your life for the nation. You were the only Arunachalee fighting for our home land and hail from Neelam clan of the Nyishi community. You identity was Tabe Dafla (Neelam) No. 50065 RFN, but none of our authority in the GoI or GoAP has recognized you as a fighter.”

 

Clarifications on CAG reports misleading: AITC

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: Arunachal Pradesh unit of All India Trinmool Congress (AITMC), while reacting to the clarifications issued by Urban and Housing Department and Department of Public Work Department, said that the two major works departments are misleading and suppressing the facts and figures of CAG reports. These two major works departments are  ‘making a complete lies and cruel jokes over the CAG reports’, said AITMC state unit general secretary Techi Necha in a release today.

Both the Chiefs of the two major works departments are protecting their ‘corrupt’ and ‘unscrupulous’ subordinate officers for indulging in embezzlement of public money in a fraud manners while countering the exposition of the CAG reports, he said.

The chiefs of the two works department, instead of misleading the entire episode of the CAG reports, should set their houses in order to maintain a proper financial management by their subordinate officers, the state AITC said.

The party said both major works departments are answerable to the financial losses of the state to the people of the state. And these are  clear cases of corrupt practice, cheating and fraud.  

 

12 hours Pasighat bandh postponed

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: The 12 hours proposed Pasighat bandh on October 21 called by PPWC, BBK, BBYK, ABSU and AESDSU in protest of alleged manhandling of President BBYK has been postponed due to Durga Puja, informed Bogong Banggo ZPM cum PPWC Chairman Okom Yosung.

However, the five organizations will have a joint sitting with district administration after Durga Puja for amicable solution of the issue.

 

Judge admits record as part of election petition

NAHARLAGUN, Oct 20: After submission of reports by forensic science expert from Banderdewa forensic science laboratory and their prolonged cross examinations in election petition No. 01(AP)/2009 – Takam Sorang vs Markio Tado and 17 others, Gauhati High Court judge justice P K Musahary, in his ruling on September 17 last, observed that “This memorandum shall be part of the record of the petition No 01(AP)/2009.”

While counsel Muk Pertin pleaded on behalf of Tado, counsels B L Singh and G Kato stood on behalf of Sorang contested the case during the cross examinations of the expert, who in his report claimed that “There are similarities in the execution of signatures indicating the presence of common hand(s) in their execution (pictorial chart enclosed which is self explanatory).”

Sorang had moved the petition after losing to Tado in 2009 assembly election from Tali seat.  

 

4th state level Chess tournament

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: All Arunachal Pradesh Chess Association ( AAPCA), in its executive body meeting today decided to hold the 4th State Level Chess Tournament from November 23 to 27 at Itanagar.

AAPCA has also decided in the meeting to bid to host the 6th North East State’s Championship 2014 in the forthcoming 5th North East State’s Championship-2013 to be held in Aizwal, Mizoram.

 

IDEA conducts training on candle making

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: Itanagar Diocesan Empowerment Association (IDEA) conducted a training program on Candle Making supported by Caritas INDIA at Damsite, Naharlagun today.

Sr. Mercy SABS as a resource person gave various inputs regarding raising funds in their respective groups through business.

As the Govt. is not capable of providing job to all we should come up with the attitude of learning by ourselves and work hard for own need. One should learn to manage his/her own life. We should create new ideas that will lead us to the goal of success, she said.

Hillang Nikom IDEA animator Naharlagun and Sanjit Basumatary Project Coordinator, IDEA were present in the training. A total 25 participants attended the training.

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: Tenya Rina has been awarded the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Botany by Rajiv Gandhi University on her thesis entitled “Studies on the Cultivation of Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus spp.) in Arunachal Pradesh on Various Ligno-Cellulosic Agro-Forest Wastes”. Teniya Rina, Faculty of Life Sciences, Dept. of Botany, RGU, carried out her research work under the supervision of Dr. R. K. Singh, Professor and Head, Department of Botany, Rajiv Gandhi University. She is the daughter of Ite Rina and Nyabi Rina of village Rina under Koyu Circle of East Siang district. The degree will be conferred to her on the next convocation.

 

AMSU demands sufficient teachers in Lohit and Anjaw

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: All Mishmi Students Union (AMSU) today called on Education Minister Bosiram Siram and demanded subject teachers particularly of science stream at various schools in Lohit and Anjaw district.  AMSU delegation also briefed on the various issues and problems faced by the student community to minister for early redressal.

Union said that after week-long educational tour in the two districts, it has observed that shortage of subject teachers is the chronic issue faced by every school.  Drawing minister attention towards absentee of teachers and mere drawing of salary cultures by the teachers union requested the minister to act against such mal-practice. In its ten point’s memorandum, AMSU also raised the issue of stipend and said that many students in interior areas are facing hardship due to non-release of stipend. It also demanded for the commencement of science stream at IGG College Tezu, and establishment of Govt. Polytechnic College at Hawai in Anjaw district. Further union demanded for the cancellation of appointment of eleven JT teachers and seven AT teachers under SSA in the districts.

 

T-20 Cricket Tourney begins

AALO Oct, 20:  Youths are a force to be reckoned with and young people can play an important role in the development of their society and in addressing various social issues, West Siang ADC Moki Loyi said while inaugurating the T-20 Cricket Tournament organized by All Aalo Youth Association here today.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Loyi exhorted the youths to live up to the society’s expectations by shouldering bulk of the responsibilities. Organizing the sports event is also a step towards such endeavor as sports foster unity, brotherhood and mutual trust, he said.

West Siang Superintendent of police appealed all to maintain sportsmanspirit while taking part in such tournaments.

AAYA president Kenge Lomi disclosed that organizing the tournament is a step towards propagating goodwill and brotherhood among different strata of people residing within Aalo Township through sports.

‘Daporijo looks cleaner than before’

DAPORIJO, Oct 20: In its continued efforts to make Daporijo “clean and green’ and create awareness on cleanliness and hygiene among the masses, the Urban Development Department organized its 12th Mass Cleanliness and Awareness Campaign with the help and active support of PRI members and public at Airfield and on the road towards Circuit House, Daporijo today.

The clogged drains, garbage and construction materials dumped along the roadside have been cleared. The swamped and overgrown airfield is being cleared.

About a hundred people, including the DC, SP, various HoDs, administrative officers, PRI members and the public joined the programme.

Daporijo looks cleaner than before ever since the “cleanliness mission” started and the number of people coming forward to clean up the place is also increasing. DIPRO

 

Don Bosco College Week celebrated

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: Curtains came down on the week-long celebration of Don Bosco College Week 2012 with a grand valedictory function.

Attending function, Parliamentary Secretary for Horticulture Honchun Ngandam exhorted the students to use their energy and time positively and properly for the betterment of one’s own self, the society, the state and the country as a whole. He challenged the students to be the best in whatever they do, be it in sports, cultural activities or studies.

Director of Sports and Youth Affairs D K Dinglow briefed the students about the achievements the state is making in the field of sports and assured the college of assistance in the field of sports and games.

Both Ngadam and Dinglow distributed medals and trophies to the team and the individual winners.

 

ASH’s NVBD mission continues

ITANAGAR, Oct 20: A Donors Motivation Seminar/Workshop was organized at Dera Natung Government College here today as part of the month-long National Voluntary Blood Donation Day by Arunachal State Hospital (ASH), Naharlagun under the aegis Arunachal Pradesh AIDS Control Society.

Senior Biochemist of Arunachal State Hospital Dr. Kenyi Ete gave a vivid description through PowerPoint on the various aspects of blood and the need of voluntary blood donation. He highlighted how India is still lagging behind others in this field and exhorted the enthusiastic students and faculty members of the college to further disseminate the message of voluntary blood donation.

The programme was also attended by ASH Blood Bank In-Charge Dr. G Padu, vice principal VP Sangey Khandu, NSS officers and other members of the college.

Around 350-400 students enthusiastically participated in the programme.

Fifty-two units of blood were collected from the NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, students and faculty members in a blood donation camp organized on the occasion.

ASH authority has also proposed to organize such voluntary blood donation camp at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), ITBP and BRTF camps.

Chief Medical Superintendent of ASH Moji Jini thanked the DNGC family for their active cooperation and successful conduction of the programme.

Speed up road restoration work in Anjaw

Dear Editor,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of the  commander of the 48 BRTF, Demwe  towards the problems being faced by flood ravaged people of Anjaw district.

That sir, as you are well aware that the whole of Anjaw district is cut off from the rest of the world since the beginning of Oct due to road blockade caused by unprecedented rainfall and landslides.   The people of this district are facing untold miseries due to acute shortage of essential commodities, life saving drugs followed by disruption of road communication in several places.  Therefore, I request the authority for early restoration of the road communication.

Moreover, the BJP is going to organize “Jara Yaad Karo Kurbani’ programme at Walong in November to pay homage to those martyr soldiers who sacrificed their lives at the altar of duty during Chinese aggression in 1962. Therefore, early restoration of road link is highly expected to facilitate participation of  large number of people in the programme.

A good laugh indeed

Dear Editor,

It is always amusing when people get the exact touch or cord of our sarcasm, but it is more amusing if that person catch the idea or visual treat we want to portray minus the very sarcasm itself.

This morning like every day, when I was going through the news and other articles in your newspaper my attention got caught of Taba Ajum's picture on the pathetic condition of road in Arunachal vis a vis Itanagar with the caption "Readers should not get confused...a lake at NH52(A) near K.V. No.2...". Just as I was laughing at the sarcastic descriptions of the picture, a colleague of mine (who is a non-Arunachalee) peeped in from behind and asked me...,"HEY! WHICH RIVER IS IT??” I could not help but burst into laughter’s. My friend got startled, looked at me amused, then to the picture again and read the caption. He had a hearty laugh too. It was a good laugh: a laugh on the trouble and inconvenience we have to face every day, a laugh on the pathetic condition and shame we face every day when people from other state comment on lawlessness and corruption in Arunchal. At last it was a good laugh on the corrupted system and the people involved in it.

Take proper steps for better education

Dear Editor,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I on behalf of Arunachal University Students Union, would like to remind the State Govt. that there is State University in Pasighat affirmed in 2010-11. Unfortunately, the students of this university are facing numerous problems due to lack of Govt initiatives. Regrettably, there is no curiosity and assistance made by the Govt. to make the institute progress and exist. There is no separate faculty for the P.G students, academic system is operating by the lecturers of J.N.C Pasighat which resulted into abysmal academic scenario.

There is no laboratory facility to carry out the practical works which deeply hinders the Post Graduate Geography students, besides there is no proper class room  and hostel facility for women.

So it is my sincere request to State Govt. and concern Deptt. to take appropriate steps and extend all required assistance for smooth running of the institute  for better education.

Women in Bhutan and politics

According to a new study, factors like household duties and low self esteem, have prevented women in Bhutan from participating in politics.

Household responsibilities, low self-esteem, illiteracy, fewer role models and lower expectations prevent Bhutanese women from actively participating in local politics, according to the some of the findings of a new study released by NCWC with support of UN Women in Thimpu.

Commissioned by the National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC), the report, ‘Women in Politics: Status of Women’s Political Participation in Bhutan’, is based on a survey with 822 women and 714 men in rural and urban areas of Bhutan during June and July 2011.

According to the study, Bhutanese women have fourteen per cent representation in Parliament and seven per cent at the local government level. The report also finds that a majority of women (57 per cent) are interested to join politics. They are, however, held back by constraining factors such as lack of education and training as well as limited involvement and skills in decision-making. They also suffer from low self-esteem and poor-self image, and have to carry the burden of being a housewife, mother and provider.

According to the study overall 61.7 per cent of those surveyed felt that the burden of being a mother, domestic work and income generation prevented women for participating in public life. Notably 42.7 per cent felt that women have lower expectations of their leadership capability in politics as around 38 per cent saw leadership and politics as a masculine activity.

The study also revealed that about 51 per cent people perceived women as ‘passive participants’ in decision-making whether at home, in the village or at the gewog (block) level and 67 per cent believed that illiteracy or lower educational level was a major barrier to women’s participation.

Bhutan has in place an adequate election system with fairness of the electoral process at the local levels being at a commendable level. However, the system needs to have inbuilt mechanisms to motivate women’s participation in local polls.
